Welcome To Mollie’s Blog

Adorable world-traveling chimp.

There are many reasons that I feel an affinity with this particular monkey. Neither of us are tall enough to see over the ticket counter. Neither of us bother to shave our legs before flying. Airport humidity causes both of our heads to ‘fro out like it’s 1975.  We both get excited at the prospect of traveling to new places. In fact, that last reason is why I’ve decided to start a blog.

I’ve been traversing the tangled interwebs since I can remember and, for the last year or so, I’ve been doing it for a living. I’ve traveled to Twittopia. I’ve facebooked my preschool classmates. I’ve linked in and flickered and iliked and meemed and meeboed and even ventured back into myspace territory. I’ve used google maps, google chat, google docs, google mail, google search, google spot remover, etc.

As we work to produce and promote our own site, my company has been breaking barriers down, pushing past the possible and basically reinventing the wheel on everything from social networking permissions to how we save and structure our data.

But, if there is anything that the mighty professor Edward Branigan — mentor, teacher and purveyor of classical film theory at UCSB — taught me during my time there, it’s that you can’t break the rules until you know them. Intimately. In the Biblical sense.

So, I keep traveling through the time-space continuum known as the internet, albeit minus the tricked-out Delorean I’ve been coveting since the early nineties. I don’t have a big red passport either. But, I do have the same excitement as my little monkey friend. Hopefully, this blog will help me share that with the world. Or at least those people who still care enough to read what I have to say even when it takes me more than 140 words to say it.

Fuck Twittopia. You need more than 140 characters. What if I need to use 141 exclamation points? Then it might look something like this: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And yes, that is 141 exclamation points.
